Just over a decade ago, when ignotus press published its first title (Malleus Satani, 1994) anyone with even a casual interest in 'alternative' subjects was considered socially suspect, if not downright evil! Believe it or not, any moderate New Age leanings, such as aromatherapy, astrology, tarot, divination, herbalism, etc., fell under the banner of satanic behaviour in the eyes of a large sector of the establishment, public and media.

Today, some 10 years later, the popularity of light-hearted television programmes like Charmed, Sabrina: Teenage Witch and Buffy, the Vampire Slayer; the literary and cinematic successes of Harry Potter; not to mention the revivalist interest in Lord of the Rings, has completely reversed the way people view magical belief and lifestyle. Most mainstream publishers now have a wide selection of 'mind, body & spirit' titles on their book list, and are becoming more and more adventurous in accepting what was once labeled 'occult'. The whole MB&S concept has grown up and moved on. As a result of all this publicity, what was once considered an alternative belief or lifestyle has become integrated into mainstream society and now viewed as normal and acceptable. In other words, the esoteric has become exoteric ... but the Mysteries still remain.

Here at ignotus press we are continuing to add titles to our list that reflect these changes but also remain true to the original aims, by only accepting innovative, forward-looking material on all aspects of the Mystery element of Craft and Ritual Magic. This approach continues to demonstrate each writer's personal grasp of both traditional and contemporary esoteric practice in both fiction and non-fiction. ignotus press and Moonraker titles are all written by highly experienced authors in these esoteric traditions.

By contrast, our other imprints, Alphard and Past Tomes, encourage authors from all walks of life to contribute to our book list, as we continue to expand our publishing interests into the realms of country lore and Nature, self-help and life-style, history and archaeology, psychology and spirituality. There are also changes afoot in our management team following my departure to live in Ireland, although I will remain on board as the commissioning editor for ignotus press and Moonraker titles.

As always, our aim is to provide a wide range of books reflecting all aspects of the esoteric and traditional life-style, and we hope you will continue to enjoy reading them.
